My First Real Win: The Music Video Deal

Last week, I was about to walk away from what could’ve been my first paid music video gig. The client said my price was a bit over budget for him. I doubted myself for a second. But something in me said: don’t fold this time. And I’m glad I listened.

The Back and Forth

I quoted him (price not disclosed)— shooting and editing included. He told me he had offers from two other videographers with “the same quality” for less. That line hit me. I started thinking, Am I asking too much? Do I have enough experience to charge this? I almost dropped my price just to keep the job. But then I thought: I’ve put in hours studying, shooting, and building my brand. This isn’t a hobby. So I held firm — but I offered to meet halfway: Half upfront, Half after. I told him it’s an exclusive rate, not to be shared.

He Said Yes!!!

He agreed. He respected the hustle. And more importantly — he respected me. That moment gave me something deeper than just a client: it gave me confidence. Confidence to charge what I’m worth. To not fold just to “get experience.” To move like I already belong here.

If You’re Just Starting Out…

If you’re scared to name your price — I get it. But trust me, people feel it when you stand behind your work. Don’t undercut your vision just to play it safe. This was my first real win. Not because of the money — but because I showed up like a pro.

I’m just getting started. If you’ve ever felt the same self-doubt while growing your creative hustle — hit me up or drop a comment
